Well, I made some more progress. I just received my 100th QSL on 30m so that makes 7 band DXCC (just missing 12m and 160m). I added just 6 QSLs on 12m since March and 10 new QSLs came in on 160 (the fruit of the Winter DX season). I hope to pick up some more QSLs on 12m if we get a decent band opening during a contest. With winter coming, I hope to finish up 160 also this year for 9 band DXCC. My total DX countries confirmed now stands at 273 (adding 9 new ones since March).
I moved this to its own page so the refresh works…
I need 26 more confirmed countries on 80m for 5 band DXCC! Then, time to work on the WARC bands and 160.
Way too many years in the making, I finally received my ARRL WAS Triple Play certificate. I picked up Nebraska on SSB in the ARRL Sweepstakes this year for the last one…NY4I Triple Play
The Times sent a reporter to the Bay Pines site this year. There was a nice write up in the Sunday local section on Field Day. Here is a quote from the story:
“I can pick up a cellphone and talk to any of these other operators. That’s easy,” Schaefer said. “I can get online and I can send out a tweet, and that’s easy. But when you talk to somebody like this, and there’s nothing between you and them but empty space, that’s magic.”

When I got the Ten Tec Orion 2, I needed a real serial port. I thought this would be a good time to get one a 4 port USB – Serial converter. I opted for the Keyspan USA-49WG as I have had good luck with that brand on my Mac. It has worked mostly OK, but I do get random blue screens of death ( BSOD ). The crash dump reports the 49WG driver. I opened a ticket with Tripp Lite on 28 Dec 2012. I will report back on what happens. Note I am running this with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a Dell XPS PC (that was for the search engines).
